The Illinois Sustainable Technology Center, a division of the Prairie Research Institute at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign is seeking two academic hourly Chemists/Engineers:
1. One position is to assist a research grant funded by USDA NIFA under the Water and Watersheds Program. The project focuses on investigating the fate and transport of manure-associated steroid hormones and veterinary antibiotics in the environment.
2. Second position is to assist research on a project that focuses on converting waste biomass, biofuels industry byproducts, and waste materials to bio-oils and biochar, followed by upgradation of bio-crude oils to biofuels, chemicals and value added products.
Job Description:
The positions involve process research and sample preparation for chemical contaminant analysis. Good laboratory skill is required and additional research tasks are possible, depending on skill level, experience and motivation. The candidates should be able to lift at least 30 lbs. and should have safety awareness for working in the above mentioned environment. A BS degree in Chemistry, Engineering, or related field is required and familiarity with analytical sample preparation, lab instrument operations and an understanding of laboratory procedures are desired additional skills.
The position will be for 40 hours per week with some schedule flexibility. Starting salary will range from $13-15/hour, dependent on qualifications and relevant experience.
