1. CSSA 2011 Fall 新生PNC银行开户办卡活动 After Hour Event (Free Dinner)

银行开户、办理借记卡/信用卡是每个新生到达学校的第一课。8月份是新生抵达的高峰期，每年这个时候，Green街上的几家银行（Busey、PNC、Free Star）营业厅里总是排着长长的队伍。为了帮助新生同学们节省时间、简化办理手续、更好地了解银行开户办卡的相关知识，PNC银行（CSSA长期赞助商）将于8月23日周二下午6点在中餐馆Lai Lai Wok举办After Hour Event。活动内容大致如下：银行经理和工作人员将为大家介绍相关背景知识、在美国开户须知、如何使用支票、信用卡还款/返点等等；此后大家可以就开户的各种问题向银行工作人员提问，在这个过程中大家可以免费享用PNC银行提供的晚餐和饮料；最后，有明确办卡意向的同学可以填写相关表格，当场办卡。参加这个活动可以为你省去大量的排队时间，同时还能得到了一次关于个人理财的普及讲座。这样一来，你就可以利用吃晚饭的时间，把本来需要花费很多白天时间的银行事宜搞定了，而且还是免费的晚餐
如果你有学校的奖学金，那么恭喜你。如果在PNC银行开户，并将每月的工资收入打到该账户中，你就能立即获得PNC银行提供的$100现金（仅适用于8月份开户的用户）。具体细节可参考PNC银行网站：www.pnc.com
注意事项： （1）此次活动报名人数名额有限，我们将采取先报先得方式确定参加活动的同学，报名截止时间为2011年8月18日。所有被选中参加活动的同学将在8月20日之前收到我们的确认通知。 （2）请确认你十分愿意或者有很大意愿要在PNC银行开户办卡，再去填表报名参加本次活动。
（3）鉴于以往类似活动的经验，我们发现在大家踊跃报名的同时，也会有很多报名并确认要来的同学最终没有来。我们非常理解大家因为倒时差或者其他种种原因，不能赴约。但希望你们能够提前两天（8月21日）发邮件通知我们（supermoster5@gmail.com），毕竟PNC银行组织本次活动也要花费很多心血。美国是十分重视个人信用的社会，请大家入乡随俗。谢谢你支持UIUC-CSSA的工作。

3. Prof. Dehai Liang will visit UIUC in August 17-18
Professor Liang (dliang@pku.edu.cn) from Peking University will visit UIUC on Aug 17-18. We will help to organize a meeting with him on campus (maybe in Materials Science building) 10-12 am, Aug 18. Any students, posdocs, who are interested in these two positions, are welcome to come. Applicants can send email to (litang.pku@gmail.com) if he/she wants to go to the meeting. We need to know how many people will come.
